Multimedia Journalism

While working at The Wayne Independent, I was interviewed by NPR's The Bryant Park Project about Damascus Township and the natural gas companies and citizen organizations that were both trying to control the debate over mineral rights leasing in the area.

Here in Boston, I have collaborated with BostonNightLife.tv to blog about local events.

These days, being a good writer isn't enough for a journalist. You need to be literate in as many media formats as possible, to bring the news to people no matter how they wish to receive it. That means being able to build websites, create visual and audio news stories using tools like Flash, Quark and Photoshop, live blog and do your own photography. Over the past year at BU, I've learned all these skills and more, and I'm always looking for new opportunities to practice and learn - starting with building and customizing this website.

Here's some examples of my abilities with photography and digital editing:

I have also done extensive collaboration work and consulting with marketers and website professionals. Following is a testimonial from Robert Thomas, co-owner of www.mightymailboxes.com:

"As a small business owner, our web presence is crucial to building and maintaining our profits and the relationship we have with our customers. Sarah Thomas' input on every aspect of site creation, from design to prorietary copy, helped us create a digital home for Mighty Mailboxes we could be proud of - and that our customers could trust. For a more complete testimonial, we can be reached at any time via our site, www.mightymailboxes.com."
